The Kinini Cooperative, founded by community organizers Jacqui Turner and Malcolm Clear, began as a means of helping rural farmers pull themselves out of poverty caused by the 1994 genocide. When Turner and Clear found an area with high elevation and ideal coffee growing conditions, they provided the farmers living there (48 small holders) with not only coffee seedlings, but also with the equipment, training, and education necessary to produce high quality and consistent coffee. Eight years after it's genesis, the project is a resounding success- the coffee is exceptional, and 10% of all profits are being used to fund community projects in education and healthcare. We taste cantaloupe, dark brown sugar, and subtle citrus notes in this smooth, medium-bodied cup.
